Arsenal made another statement victory against Liverpool, as a 3-2 victory ensured that the Gunners return to the top of the Premier League table.

THE LOWDOWN: DIFFERENT LOOKING ARSENAL

October was supposed to be a difficult period for Arsenal, at least on paper. Successive fixtures against Tottenham and Liverpool looked daunting but it’s been two emphatic wins in both games now.

Despite twice being pegged back against Liverpool on Sunday, Arsenal secured all three points in a hugely entertaining clash at a rocking Emirates Stadium.

Gabriel Martinelli fired the Gunners ahead in the opening minute, and it set the tone for a pulsating Premier League encounter.

Liverpool struck back through Darwin Nunez midway through the half, but deep into first-half injury-time Bukayo Saka restored our lead after a rapid counter-attack.

Liverpool again got back on terms through frequent nemesis Roberto Firmino, but Saka netted from the penalty spot after Gabriel Jesus was fouled to ensure a huge three points, and send us back to the Premier League summit.

THE NUMBERS BEHIND THE WIN

Gabriel Martinelli’s goal after 58 seconds was Arsenal’s quickest in a Premier League home game since October 2011 (Robin van Persie, 29 seconds v Sunderland). It’s also the quickest goal that Arsenal have ever scored against Liverpool in the Premier League. The Brazilian has now also scored three goals against Liverpool, the most he has against any Premier League side.

Saka’s brace means Only two U21 players have scored 10+ Premier League goals since the start of last season; himself and you guessed right – Gabriel Martinelli.

Another win at Emirates also means it is slowly becoming a fortress as the Gunners have now won eight straight league home games for the first time under Mikel Arteta.

THE VERDICT: GENUINE ARSENAL

Questions have been asked about the quality of opponents Arsenal have faced in their winning run so far but after defeating Tottenham and Liverpool in successive games, no one can say otherwise anymore.

Arsenal have shown they are a different side this time around and while it remains early to talk about the title, the Gunners are already genuine contenders at this point.

Arsenal will now look to maintain their brilliant form starting with a Europa League fixture against Bodo/Glimt before returning to league action against Leeds at the weekend.
