THE LOWDOWN: WORLD CUP FEATURE

Martinelli had a fantastic start to the season with Arsenal before he was surprisingly named in the 2022 World Cup squad by Tite, much to the disappointment of a journalist in his native Brazil.

At the Mundial in Qatar, he came on for his World Cup debut in his side’s 2-0 win over Serbia in their opening game. Against Switzerland, he was an unused substitute as the Selecao sealed progression into the round of 16.

Having qualified, it is expected that Tite will ring some changes against the African side, which Martinelli could be given a start.

According to reports, Gabriel Martinelli impressed in training with Brazil and will start against Cameroon on Friday,

As per Goal Brasil, Martinelli has been excellent in training with the national team, scoring goals and providing assists. In addition, it is believed that Insiders, who regularly watch training, have been impressed with his performances in the sessions.

In a related development, Brazil boss Tite has confirmed that Martinelli will be in the starting lineup against Cameroon in their final group game on Friday.

THE VERDICT: DREAM START

For Martinelli, it will be his first start at the World Cup, and also his first start for the Brazil national team at senior level.
