Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah has made a key decision ahead of this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

THE LOWDOWN: MIXED CAREER

Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah came through the ranks and has been able to be a part of the first-team squad under Mikel Arteta. When it looked like he will be leaving the Emirates, he signed an extension last term.

So far this season, he has not started in the Premier League because of the presence of Gabriel Jesus but has enjoyed enough playing time in the Europa League. He has scored twice and played a key role in Arsenal’s comeback win over Fulham.

At the international level, he is not settled yet. The Arsenal striker is England Under-21s’ record goalscorer with 16 goals in 17 appearances, but Gareth Southgate is yet to hand him his first senior call-up. With the likes of Harry Kane and Tammy Abraham currently ahead of him, talks of him switching allegiance to Ghana, the country of his parents, have been intense.

THE LATEST: GHANA SWITCH?

According to a report, the Ghana FA have ended their attempts to get Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah to switch his international allegiance. Nketiah, 23, is eligible to represent Ghana because of his Ghanaian parents and has been reportedly considering the switch.

GHANAsoccernet.com is reporting that the FA have ended their pursuit of the striker following several attempts, despite him stating his willingness to represent the Black Stars.

It looks dead certain that Nketiah’s hesitance over committing his international future to the West African country will cost him a place in the World Cup squad. Both Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams, who previously played for Spain in 2016, and English-born Tariq Lamptey switched their allegiance earlier this year.

THE VERDICT: INDECISION

Nketiah is stuck at the moment and just looking to sort out his time at Arsenal before making the switch. As things stand, he can’t make it to the World Cup with either England or Ghana. Anyways, he needs to make more impressions off the bench as he did against Fulham earlier in the season for him to be reckoned with by Arteta.
