Martin Odegaard has warned his Arsenal teammates that more work lies ahead, despite the Gunners’ strong start to the campaign.
THE LOWDOWN: NEW SEASON, NEW ARSENAL
After making key signings over the summer, many expected Arsenal to improve from where they left off last season. So far, the Gunners have followed the script and perhaps even exceeded early expectations.
After three games played, Arsenal stand alone as the only side with a perfect record so far. A 2-0 victory over Palace on the opening day was followed up by a 4-2 victory over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.
Last time out, the Gunners claimed a 3-0 win over Bournemouth and captain Martin Odegaard played a huge role in that victory, bagging an early brace before William Saliba wrapped things up in brilliant fashion to score his first goal for Arsenal.
Surprisingly, or not, Mikel Arteta’s men are top of the table and look in good form at the moment. Many are starting to see the Gunners as genuine title challengers but Odegaard has warned that a lot of work lies ahead and the club are yet to achieve anything – yet.
THE LATEST: ODEGAARD PLAYS DOWN STRONG START
Like every Arsenal fan out there, Odegaard is basking in the euphoria of a strong start to the campaign but has urged his teammates to avoid complacency of any sort.
“Yeah, of course [we have to keep our feet on the ground],” Odegaard told Standard Sport. “We haven’t done anything yet, as you say.
“As I said before, we have to stay calm, we have to keep working hard and stay humble. We always look for the next game and play every game as a final.
“That’s what we want to do. That’s the mindset now that we have. We go to the next one and try to win that one.”
THE VERDICT: RIGHT MENTALITY
Treating every game as a final is the right way to go about it and it couldn’t have been said any better than Odegaard did.
Three games out of 38 is practically nothing and it could all change in the blink of an eye. At some point last season too, everyone expected Arsenal to seal a Champions League spot but it all culminated to a disappointing end.
It makes sense that players and fans should not get ahead of themselves but take it one game at a time with the hopes that we can continue this brilliant form for as long as possible.
