Transfer expert David Ornstein has issued an update on Arsenal’s current position heading into the final weeks of the January transfer window.

THE LOWDOWN: WINTER BUSINESS

Arsenal’s transfer business this January has not really gone according to plan. The Gunners missed out on a number of targets like Mudryk and João Felix.

The north London outfit remains on top of the league and do have an eight-point lead over second-placed Manchester City. They continue to be on the lookout for quality additions this month in order to bolster their chances of lifting their first Premier League title since 2004.

Following the recent disappointment with Mudryk, a transfer expert has attempted to offer an insight to what the Gunners’ plans are for the remainder of the month.

THE LATEST: EXPERT’S OPINION

Speaking to NBC Sports, David Ornstein revealed that Mikel Arteta still wants to strengthen his squad, stating: “Don’t think they’re out of this just yet, in terms of reinforcing their squad.”

Meanwhile, while speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Ornstein made some clarifications about what Arsenal want to do this month, and that they still have time to do so.

“There weren’t alternatives that they were pursuing,” Ornstein explained.

“When you hear of clubs…going for a player and having others on the back burner…in Arsenal’s situation they didn’t have others on the back burner.

“That doesn’t mean to say that they don’t have recruitment lists and opportunities they could explore or have looked into in the past and can revisit.”

Ornstein concluded that Arsenal would not do anything that they feel will affect them negatively in terms of finances or in sporting terms.

However, he still expects the Gunners to strengthen this month but doesn’t know if they will.

THE VERDICT: TIME IS RUNNING OUT

It seems Arsenal could end the window without any new signings, which would certainly be disappointing to the fans. For now though, there’s still time to bring any addition in before the end of the month.
