Former Premier League star Michael Owen believes that Arsenal will stay competitive until the end of the season but predicts that they will miss out on the league title.

THE LOWDOWN: A NEW ARSENAL

Mikel Arteta’s side have won nine out of their opening ten games in the Premier League and they currently sit top of the table, with the only blip coming in a defeat to Manchester United in early September.

Arsenal have shown a different character this season and have been able to beat two fellow ‘big six’ teams in Liverpool and Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium this month.

Although many believe that more tests will still come and that the Gunners might crumble, the north Londoners’ new-found mentality has come to the fore in a couple of games this season. and they are currently on a run of four consecutive wins in the Premier League.

THE LATEST: OWEN’S PREDICTION

However, Owen believes that Manchester City will still win the Premier League this season despite Arsenal’s four-point lead at the top heading into this weekend’s action.

The former England striker believes that Arteta’s men might lose momentum toward the end of the campaign, although he doesn’t think the Gunners they will be far off.

Speaking to Ace Football, Owen said: “Arsenal have surprised a lot of people, and I don’t think it’s a fluke.

“When you watch their performances, they’ve actually played really well. So I don’t think Arsenal are a flash in the pan at all. I think they’ll sustain it. I think they’ll have a good season.

“But I think Manchester City are different class to anyone at the moment. I think they’ve had a great start to the season. Obviously, they lost to Liverpool the other day, but they look so good in so many games. So I still think Manchester City will win the league, but I think Arsenal are here to stay.

THE VERDICT: WAIT AND SEE

Arsenal were not fancied by many as title challengers before the season began but are slowly changing the narrative.

Time will tell if this team is really set to break into the top four for the first time since 2017, or maybe even end a 19-year wait to lift the Premier League trophy.
