Arsenal could still go for want-away Real Madrid winger, Marco Asensio, when the winter window opens as per fresh reports.

THE LOWDOWN: SUMMER CHASE

Arsenal were linked with Marco Asensio in the closing stages of the summer window. He became an alternative when it became clear that the likes of Bayern Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, PSV’s Cody GakpoCrystal Palace’s Micheal Olise were links that could not materialize and Pedro Neto was going to cost a fortune.

On the other hand, Arsenal shipped out a couple of unwanted players with the hope of replacing them before the window gets shut. However, the midfield injury crisis turned everything on its head, leaving the Gunners with no other option but to see to that pressing need.

In the end, Arsenal finished the transfer business without getting a winger or a midfielder and it appears the Gunners will be going back for a player they were linked with earlier.

THE LATEST: POSSIBLE WINTER CHASE

According to reports, Arsenal could be going back for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio in January.

As per Cuatro, Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of the winger but a deal could not be struck in the summer and it is believed that  Arsenal are set to make a return for the Spain international in the winter transfer window.

At the moment, the Spaniard is struggling for minutes at the Bernabeu and he is in the final 12 months of his contract, as it appears manager Carlo Ancelotti does not see him as part of his plans any longer.

As stated on Fichajes.net, the Spain international won’t sign a renewal with the La Liga champions because of his current treatment at the capital club. Although both Arsenal and AC Milan are the two main protagonists in the race for his potential signature, Arsenal could be ahead in the race because it looks like he can get enough playing time at the Emirates than in Milan.

THE LOWDOWN: DECENT ALTERNATIVE

Marco Asensio is in the final year of his contract at Real Madrid, so he should not cost an arm and a leg. Arteta clearly needs quality and Asensio is one player who has won it all in European football.

The Spanish winger offers a goal threat from the wings and has vast experience playing top-level European football. He could be the help Bukayo Saka needs on the right wing of Arsenal’s attack.
