Rio Ferdinand predicts that Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli could be the “next Suarez” if he stay stays fit for the Gunners this season.

THE LOWDOWN: QUANTUM LEAP

Gabriel Martinelli joined the Gunners from Brazilian club Ituano  in 2019 and struggled with injuries upon his arrival in London. Upon his return to fitness, the winger did not waste time before becoming one of the side’s most trusted players as he took his chance with both hands.

Martinelli has since then owned the left side of Arsenal’s attack and has started the season brightly. He scored the new Premier League season’s first goal against Crystal Palace and scored again in the home win over Leicester City at the weekend.

So far so good, he has scored twice in two Premier League games this season and he’s looking pretty good for a wonderful season with the Gunners.

For the first time in his Arsenal career, he has now scored in three successive Premier League games and only one thing now stands in his way from enjoying his best prolific season in front of goal with the Gunners.

THE LATEST: IDEAL COMMENT

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been waxing-lyrical about Gabriel Martinelli after his remarkable start to the Premier League season.

Ferdinand, who has been very impressed by what he’s seen from the Brazilian star, went as far as to compare the winger to Luis Suarez.

“Martinelli, if he stays fit, this guy, I’ve told you this before what Arteta told me, he could be the next Suarez-type player. Even Brendan Rodgers, I was interested in Brenden Rodgers’ comments, he said that Arsenal have gone up a level with their additions, so it looks positive with you guys,” Ferdinand said.

THE VERDICT: GROWING TALENT

Martinelli recently turned 21 and has a lot to learn at this stage of his career. Ferdinand’s comparison look a bit over the top, but the young Brazilian actually has the potential to reach that level.

The winger is a fantastic footballer, he is always hungry and the talent he has is unbelievable, and as Ferdinand says, the only thing keeping him from reaching the very top is his fitness.

His numbers will also strongly benefit from playing alongside compatriot Gabriel Jesus, who Martinelli describes as one of the world’s best.

Martinelli’s career is right on track and has the potential to become one of the Premier League’s very best by the time he hits his peak, and the fact that Arsenal signed him for just £6m is just incredible.
