Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes three Arsenal stars should be considered serious contenders to win the Premier League Player of the Season award.
THE LOWDOWN: IMPRESSIVE ARSENAL
Arsenal started the season on a different note and quite spectacularly. The Gunners racked up five consecutive wins to begin the season in style before a defeat at Manchester United in their tracks. However, the club picked itself up and kept dominating once again.
The Gunners claimed wins over Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea in a run that confirmed their intentions to challenge for the title this season. Mikel Arteta’s side finished top at Christmas and have claimed back-to-back wins since the return of the Premier League after the World Cup.
As things stand, Arsenal are currently seven points ahead of Manchester City, although there are still over 20 games to go.
THE LATEST: PUNDIT’S TALK
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes three Arsenal stars have a serious shout to win the Premier League Player of the Season award.
Arsenal are currently seven points clear at the top of the table and many of the side’s top performers have received many plaudits and are expected to be recognized during the end-of-season awards, regardless of whether or not they win the title.
Cascarino has named three Arsenal players who he thinks are already in the running for the biggest individual prize, writing for The Times: “Nobody is having a bad campaign.”
“Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey are contenders for player of the season.”
“Comparing this Arsenal side with the one who missed a top-four place last year is misleading. They were shattered towards the end of the 2021-22 season and did not have the confidence or high standards that they do now.”
“Their squad depth is growing too. Gabriel Jesus’s injury was a blow but Eddie Nketiah is capable of making a massive impact and I think he is the best finisher at the club.”
“Arsenal have a tricky run before February 15 but they are well positioned to handle it. They will strengthen in the January transfer window and have Jesus and Emile Smith Rowe to come back.”
THE VERDICT: HIGHLY INFLUENTIAL TRIO
Easily, Forward Saka, who has been Arsenal’s best player in the past two seasons, is most likely to find himself in the Player and Young Player of the Season category, following another brilliant start to the season.
