Arsenal have reportedly triggered the contract extension clauses of Bukayo Saka and  William Saliba.

THE LOWDOWN: INTENSE CONTRACT TALKS

Following a great start to the season, Arsenal have been trying to extend the contract of several first-team players. Saka and Saliba are part of that number of players with about 24 months or less left on their current contracts.

Saka and Saliba should have signed a new deal before the end of 2022 but the pair had to be at the World Cup with England and France respectively.

But following the conclusion of the Mundial and return to club action, it seems the club has now taken the decision to keep the two key players at the Emirates.

THE LATEST: CONTRACT EXTENSION

Arsenal have reportedly triggered extension clauses in both Bukayo Saka and William Saliba’s contracts, keeping them at the club until 2024.

The duo would have been available to leave for free in the summer, but the club has now activated one-year extension options for both players while talks continue over long-term deals, according to ESPN.

As contained in the report, Arsenal are confident of securing both players’ futures beyond next year, with Saka in line for a major salary increment to around £200,000 per week for his excellent performances in the Arsenal shirt.

Meanwhile, it is quite a similar case for Saliba, who has turned his Arsenal career around following loan spells in France.

It was also revealed in the report that negotiations over a long-term deal will continue for both players, while negotiations over a new deal for Gabriel Martinelli, whose current contract is due to expire in June, 2024, will resume.

THE VERDICT: ONLY A MATTER OF TIME

Saka’s future lies at the Emirates and Saliba is starting to call Arsenal home. Without any doubt, both players will remain at the Emirates for another season and should stick around for many more years after the end of this season.

With Arsenal still top of the Premier League log, winning the league and another cup competition could another motivation for the two stars to sign a long-term deal.
