Arsenal defender William Saliba is just one win away from becoming World Champions with France.

THE LOWDOWN: ON TRACK

Saliba and France are on course to win back-to-back World Cup titles when they take on Argentina on Sunday.

In just his first major tournament with Les Blues, Saliba is close to claiming is major senior silverware with the National Team.

Although he hasn’t played much at the Mundial in Qatar, the youngster made his debut in the defeat to Tunisia in their final group game and will be hoping to win the final on Sunday.

THE LATEST: CLOSE TO GLORY

William Saliba’s France reached the 2022 World Cup final, after beating tournament’s surprise packages Morocco 2-0 in the semifinal.

The defender spent the entire duration on the bench, which saw Theo Hernandez give Les Bleus’ an early lead, which was doubled in the second half by Kolo Muani.

This will be Didier Deschamps’ side fourth final in the past seven tournaments, and they will be hoping to become become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to retain the trophy.

A Lionel Messi-led Argentina stands in their way, after they knocked out Croatia in the other semi-final on Tuesday.

The final will take place on Sunday, December 18 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Doha, as the tournament comes to a close.

THE VERDICT: EMULATE OTHERS

Saliba will be keen to make history with the French National team. If they eventually win the World Cup, he will join a decent list of players who have won the World Cup as a Gunner.

Ex Arsenal stars Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil did that in 2014 after Germany claimed the trophy and Saliba will hope to achieve that feat.
