William Saliba confirmed talks with Arsenal over a new contract are ongoing, and has insisted he is ‘so happy’ at the club.

THE LOWDOWN: BREAKOUT YEAR

Saliba is enjoying a fine campaign at Arsenal under Mikel Attest, having spent the past three years in France after he was signed by the Gunners.

His arrival at the Emirates has helped stabilised the defence and Arsenal are now mounting a first title challenge in many years.

The Frenchman, who was at the World Cup, has been in talks with the club over a new deal. Although it seems an agreement has not been reached yet, he is still happy at the Emirates.

THE LATEST: HAPPY SALIBA

Speaking after Sunday’s 2-0 north London derby win at Tottenham, Saliba revealed he saw they could do something before the season even started and wants to stay with the Gunners.

“After the summer, when I saw the team and the mentality, I tell myself: ‘Yeah, we can do something this season’,” he said.

“I am so happy here. The club is speaking with my agent and me, the only thing I can do is [focus on my football]. I am so happy here.”

THE VERDICT: A MATTER OF TIME

Saliba is one of the most important players in the Arsenal team and has the capacity to even do more.

He has reiterated his desire to stay and the club will see to it and it is only a matter of time before his new contract is confirmed and announced by the club.
