Former goalkeeper David Seaman has taken aim at Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale over his World Cup comments.

THE LOWDOWN: GROWING REPUTATION

Ramsdale, since his move to Arsenal from Sheffield United last year, has grown to become one of the side’s best players. He arrived at a time when Bernd Leno was having a bad run and went on to dislodge him as the club’s number.

He was handed the number one shirt after Leno’s departure and has continued to play a key role in the Gunners’ rise to the summit of the Premier League log.

Despite his rich vein of form, Ramsdale ruled himself out of being England’s number one at the World Cup in Qatar because of the short window. But that statement has not sat down well with a former goalkeeper who believes he should not have said such.

THE LATEST: EX-GOALKEEPER’S CLAIM

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Season has berated Aaron Ramsdale for his comment on this winter’s World Cup.

It appears Ramsdale was very honest in his comments, but Seaman believes that it was unnecessary for him to have made such a statement, insisting that he’s giving Gareth Southgate an excuse not to pick him ahead of Everton and current number one Jordan Pickford.

“I saw Aaron playing against Leeds and he had a really good game, but what was weird is that I saw Aaron saying that the World Cup is coming six months too early for him, and I was like ‘you don’t need to say that, you don’t need to give anyone that excuse.’

“If you’re 50/50 with someone and he’s said that in the press that might go against you. I might have a little bit of a word to advise him there to take it back because you never know,” Seaman said on Seaman says Podcast

THE VERDICT: ABSOLUTE TRUTH

Such a statement was a loose one from Ramsdale and looks like he is doubting his abilities despite just making his debut nearly a year ago. Many fans and pundits have tipped him to be the new number one and his own comments may have handed Gareth Southgate the leverage to keep using Pickford ahead of him.
