Former Premier League defender Mikael Silvestre has named a host of names as the most important trio for Arsenal this season.

THE LOWDOWN: RAISED THE BAR

Despite a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton on Wednesday night, Arsenal remain the team to beat this season. Many are choosing to overlook that EFL Cup exit, considering that Mikel Arteta used a host of fringe names, highlighted by 20-year-old Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein.

Across three competitions, Arsenal have only lost thrice, to Manchester United, PSV and Brighton in the Premier League, Europa League and EFL Cup.

The Premier League is where the real surprise continues to happen, as the Gunners continue to lead the way ahead of Manchester City and could now stay top heading into the World Cup break.

Every first-team player under Arteta this term has raised standards on the pitch but Silvestre has outlined three key names that have stood out the most.

THE LATEST: KEY TRIO

It is hard to point to a particular name but a number of names have taken most of the plaudits for Arsenal’s impressive early-season form so far. Making his own pick of the Gunners’ most important players this season, Silvestre said in an interview with BettingExpert:

“For me, it is between Saliba, Martinelli and Xhaka. It is between those three. And even Odegaard, he has got the armband so it’s just standard for him that he needs to be up there in terms of performances.

“That is why it is hard to pick because it shows how good they are individually. That is why they are at the top of the league. I would go for Martinelli because he has been creating, he has been scoring, and he is making all of the right-backs suffer.”

THE VERDICT: FAIR CHOICE

Many might argue that Gabriel Jesus should be one of those names but the trio of Saliba, Martinelli and Xhaka cannot be faulted in any way. Besides, Jesus has struggled with consistency of late, having failed to score in his last nine games – an issue that has caused worry for Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

Asides the above names though, players like Thomas Partey, Ben White, Gabriel Magalhaes, Bukayo Saka and literally every first-team member has been on top of their game and we can only hope more of the same continues until the end of the campaign.
