Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has revealed one teammate that he has been monitoring in adapting to his new role at the Emirates this season.

THE LOWDOWN: BACK TO SHAPE

When Arsenal signed Kieran Tierney from Scottish champions Celtic back in 2019, the defender arrived with a lot of potential and was quick to show them off in his first few games upon his return to full fitness. However, the past few months have not been great as he has been battling a series of injuries.

The left-back has endured various injury problems since making his move to the Emirates. In fact, Tierney has missed 48 competitive games for the Gunners. His situation led to the signature of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City this summer.

Zinchencko started the season as the first-choice left-back, while Tierney played second fiddle. However, since the former City man sustained an injury, Tierney has started the last two games for the Gunners and he was excellent in both.

THE LATEST: ADAPTATION

Tierney has revealed that he has been taking tips from Greg Taylor – his replacement at Celtic in the summer of 2019 – to help him have a good understanding of his new role under Arteta this term.

“Aye, brilliant. Inverted full-back, that’s how we play down there. I watch him every week, trying to take tips from him,” Tierney disclosed as per Football Scotland.

He also went on to praise his teammate. “It’s brilliant to see him doing so well because he’s a great guy.

“I’m really close to him, I speak to him a lot. So yeah, I’m buzzing for him. We watch each other’s games, always, and text each other as well. It’s a new role for me and it’s a role where he’s really comfortable in. It’s great to watch him and he’s been one of Celtic’s best players this season.”

Tierney was involved in Scotland’s UEFA Nations League win over Ukraine on Wednesday night before he was replaced by Taylor during the closing stages of the game. He had a fine game and was roundly praised by the home support.

THE VERDICT: GETTING BACK TO HIS BEST

Kieran Tierney is a superb talent with an amazing work ethic on his day and it is a thing of joy to see him play three games in the past two weeks. It goes to show that he is getting back to his best. This is good news for Arsenal, as his availability puts the team in good balance even in the absence of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The 25-year-old and the Ukrainian have a healthy competition at left-back and when either of them is fit, Arsenal do not have any cause for alarm. The position remains the most covered role in the team as both players are superb on their day.
