Arsenal have reportedly become clear favourites to sign £53 million-rated Barcelona target Martin Zubimendi in the summer.

THE LOWDOWN: MIDFIELDER SEARCH

The Gunners have been active in the transfer window in the past two windows and one position they have sought to strengthen over those periods is the defensive midfield position.

While efforts were made to get Douglas Luiz in the summer, it failed greatly and coming to the winter window, it was expected that the Gunners will bring a new midfielder in.

Mikel Arteta’s side pushed for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo but the club refused to sell and the club had to settle for Chelsea’s Jorginho.

Despite the Brazilian’s addition, the Gunners are aiming to strengthen the squad in the summer and there’s been positive news on one of its targets.

THE LATEST: ADVANTAGE ARSENAL

According to Daily Mirror, Arsenal have been given the all-clear to sign £53 million-rated Martin Zubimendi in the summer.

The Spanish midfielder is considered to be a key target for Barcelona, but Xavi Hernandez may have another player as an alternative.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have Declan Rice as the club’s summer target but are still willing to bring in more midfielders. Arsenal could remain interested in Zubimendi irrespective of their pursuit of Rice. The Sociedad star has a straightforward £53 million release clause.

THE VERDICT: THE MORE THE MERRIER

Having multiple options the club can choose from, makes it quite fascinating. While Rice remains the primary target, others can come in as supporting cast as the Gunners continue to prepare for the upcoming summer transfer window.
