Former Arsenal forward Kevin Campbell has advised the Gunners to go back for Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta before the window closes.

THE LOWDOWN: ACTIVE ARSENAL

Arsenal have been very active in the window this summer. The arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Matt Turner, Fabio Riera, Marquinhos, and Oleksandr Zinchenko took the Gunners’ spending to over £100m for the second successive summer transfer.

Manager Mikel Arteta even revealed that Arsenal are not done yet after his side’s opening day Premier League win at Crystal Palace last Friday. He further mentioned that the side will look to bring in more additions to the side in order to complete the picture of the team he dreams of.

One name that had been linked with the side all summer is Lucas Paqueta and Kevin Campbell believes his quality could be useful in the side’s quest for a CL place finish or even challenge for the title.

THE LATEST: A CREDIBLE OPTION

Kevin Campbell believes Arsenal could still sign Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta because they can never have too many quality players in their squad.

When asked by Football Insider if Paqueta would be a welcome arrival at the Emirates, Campbell said: “Paqueta looks like a really, really good footballer.

“He is another Brazil international. Hey, come and join the Brazilian revolution! It is happening in London and it is happening at Arsenal.

“Listen, you can never have enough quality players, especially with the five substitute rule now.

“The pursuit of the likes of Paqueta and [Youri] Tielemans could go right to the end of the window. These are the players who are difference makers.

“The team is performing now. Could you imagine if you bolster that with two, three, four of the players we are talking about? All of a sudden people would be like, ‘Hold on a minute, something it really happening at the Emirates.’

“I like what I am hearing and I like what I am seeing. Paqueta would be a brilliant signing.”

THE VERDICT: NOT THE BEST CANDIDATE

Arsenal and Arteta are quite clear about what they want and top of that list is a new central midfielder, which Paqueta does not really fit into. The best available option is Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, who has just a year left on his contract and has been linked with a move to the Emirates all year long.

Tielemans has the Premier League experience and could play in a midfield two or even behind the striker if needed. On Paqueta, he will need to settle into a new environment totally and there could be no time for that because it is a pivotal season for Arteta and his men.
