Leandro Trossard’s agent has given an explanation as to why his client rejected Arsenal.

THE LOWDOWN: PREVIOUS LINK

Arsenal were linked with a move for the winger way before he joined Brighton in 2019. The Gunners were keen to snap him up, but the player decided to move elsewhere.

The interest was quite huge at the time but the agent, and the player were keen to get a place where playing term was guaranteed and that led to his exit from Genk.

The player, who is in his final year at Brighton now, could be on the move again and his agent has revealed why he rejected Arsenal at the time.

THE LATEST: PLAYER’S REASON

Leandro Trossard is closing in on a Brighton exit, with his current deal expiring next summer.

Arsenal have been one of the clubs linked with him in recent months and it’s not the first time.

His agent Josy Comhair has explained why his client decided to join a club where he could start regularly rather than joining Arsenal at the time.

“I had several conversations with Arsenal,” Comhair said.

“They came to Belgium four times. I’ll give you a note: most players would have chosen Arsenal.

“But what would have happened if Leandro didn’t get to play? Then there is only one way out: to take a step back. People don’t realise what that does in someone’s head. I know Leandro: bench him three times and he goes wild.

“So, we turned it around: if he does well at Brighton, he doesn’t have to back down, he can take a step forward. Didn’t we get it right?”

THE VERDICT: UNLIKELY

With Trossard turning 28 in December, it’s very unlikely that the Gunners will go for him. He would have been useful years ago but not now that age is no longer on his side.

Arsenal will most likely be on the lookout for either a younger talent or another type of player approaching their prime years.
