Arsenal have been linked with Arthur Melo for a while and a report has claimed the Gunners have made a transfer decision regarding the player.

THE LOWDOWN: SHORT-TERM DEAL

Arthur Melo has fallen out of favor at Juventus, and he has been seeking a way out. The central midfield player made 31 appearances for the Old Lady last season. He was interested in a move to the Emirates in January but a deal didn’t materialize.

Although per football.london, the Gunners are still very much interested in signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester. Arsenal feel Leicester have overvalued the Belgian, who has a year left on his contract with the Foxes.

As things stand, it appears Arsenal are now looking to a new direction as they look to add more quality in depth. Arsenal have also been linked with Lucas Paqueta but it appears Arthur might be the player to get his desired move.

THE LATEST: A SMART LOAN

According to reports from Italy, via the Express, Edu has reached an agreement with Juve to sign Arthur on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to sign permanently next summer.

Arsenal are trying to grow both quality and quantity-wise in this transfer window. Although the club have spent £121m and are willing to spend more, they want to spend in the wisest way possible.

Taking a loan deal for Arthur provides an opportunity for the Gunners to spend on other areas that need strengthening now.

THE VERDICT: AN INDIFFERENT FEELING

Most Arsenal fans have been sold on the idea of Youri Tielemans since the start of the window. Many view him as the right man for his balance of skills and grit. He contributes enough numbers in the final third while dictating play in the midfield.

Arthur Melo’s highest tally in a season is four goals, as his strength lies in dictating play and operating largely between the defense and midfield area.

Arsenal have options in Mohammed El Neny, Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga to cover that role. Arthur is a quality player but his signing will leave an indifferent feeling among the fans.
