Arsenal tried signing Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz on Deadline Day and it appears the Gunners are not giving up on the Brazilian as they prepare another bid.
THE LOWDOWN: FAILED DEADLINE ATTEMPT
In fact, Arsenal pushed till the final minute of the window for the Villa man but the Premier League club rejected Arsenal’s double bid for the Brazillian. Despite that disappointment, the North London outfit are not done yet, as they prepare to make a return for the midfield enforcer.
THE LATEST: THIRD BID
Arsenal are reportedly preparing a third bid for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.
Although Arsenal had made a decision as regards the Brazillian but according to The Sun, Mikel Arteta’s side will go in for Luiz again in January, but the offer is expected to be lower than they presented last month.
Luiz’s contract at Villa runs will expire at the end of the season, and it looks quite unlikely that the 24-year-old would sign a new deal as he is keen on the move to the Emirates.
Arteta has not been impressed with Partey’s fitness and has been looking for likely candidates that can help fill in the gaps by January. Juventus’ Manuel Locatelli and Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer have both been listed as alternatives as well.
THE VERDICT: GOOD DECISION
It seems the connection Mikel Arteta has with the player won’t allow him to look away from the deal. Both spent some time together at Manchester City and the Spanish gaffer must be very fond of him to be contemplating a third bid after the disappointment in the summer.
Luiz is a proven Premier League midfielder with rich experience and would be a great addition to the squad if snapped up in January. Youngster Sambi-Lokonga still has a lot to learn playing in that role but the acquisition of the Brazillian could help aid his development.
