Arsenal are now reported favourites to sign Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in January.

THE LOWDOWN: SUSTAINED LINK

Mykhailo Mudryk has been on Arsenal’s radar for a while now. The Ukrainian winger, who came through the ranks, made his debut for Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018. His breakthrough season came last term and has continued on the same path this campaign.

Having previously made his desire to play in the Premier League public, the winger has also voiced his admiration for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Meanwhile, an outrageous price tag was slammed on him and it didn’t go down well with the player.

“When I found out about my price, I wasn’t just surprised – I was shocked,” Mudryk told Sport Arena.

“I have a long-term contract with Shakhtar, I give all my strength and energy so that Shakhtar achieves maximum results, but every football player has a dream to play in a top club and in a top championship – I am no exception.

“But I am 100 per cent sure that they are unlikely to buy a player from the championship of Ukraine for 100 million. I will not hide that I was very upset. The amount of 100 million puts a barrier for my transition to the top championship, which I so dreamed of. I can’t say that my dream was killed, but wounded – that’s for sure.”

However, the latest news now has it that Arsenal have the green light to sign the talented winger.

THE LATEST: GREEN LIGHT

Arsenal are set to win the race to sign Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk this January.

The Gunners, alongside a host of European clubs, including Everton and Newcastle have been chasing the winger since his breakthrough last season. However, a report from the Daily Mirror claims that the North London outfit are in pole position to sign him, having presented a structure that has made Shakhtar Donetsk lower their original demands.

As per the latest update, it is understood the Ukrainian champions are willing to accept around £40m plus potential add-ons.

Another factor in Arsenal’s favour is Mudryk’s desire to team up with Ukraine teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko – the left-back moved to Arsenal last summer.

THE VERDICT: SOME PROGRESS

Just like they did in the summer, Arsenal are slowly working out a deal for Mykhailo Mudryk, as Arteta hopes to sign a winger as Bukayo Saka’s deputy by January.

Hopefully, there won’t be a breakdown in talks if and when an offer is eventually made for the winger.
