Arsenal are thought to be keen on signing Leicester City midfielder, James Maddison, this summer and Brendan Rodgers has sung his praises this weekend…

The former Norwich City man has been on the Emirates radar for some time now with links going all the way back to last summer, while reports last month claimed both Spurs and the Gunners were keeping tabs on the Foxes midfielder. Leicester are thought to want around £60m to even consider selling him.

The Foxes hammered Watford 5-1 at Vicarage Road on Sunday afternoon, with Maddison a key figure in the victory alongside Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy.

The 25-year-old equalled Riyad Mahrez’s Premier League feat with Leicester City after scoring in their thumping of Roy Hodgson’s men.

Maddison – with 16 goals and 11 assists – became the first Leicester player to both score 10 or more goals and 10 or more assists in a single season in all competitions since Mahrez did in 2017-18 with 12 goals and 11 assists.

The English midfielder has now scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, which is his best tally in a single campaign in his career. He also has 17 Premier League goal involvements this term – 10 goals and seven assists – also his most in a season in the competition.

Speaking after the game, Foxes manager Rodgers explained he was thrilled with Maddison’s display.

“I thought the attacking part of our game was outstanding. James Maddison’s quality was sensational – his passing, his delivery, work rate was very good. We had that intensity. We were penetrating. We talked before about making more runs in behind,” the former Celtic manager told the BBC.

The Foxes are facing a huge fight on their hands to keep hold of their prized assets in both Maddison and Youri Tielemans – another player on Mikel Arteta’s radar this summer.

Our thoughts on James Maddison and Arsenal links…

With Arsenal looking to bolster their squad with quality and further depth, providing they secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season, acquiring players of James Maddison’s ilk and class could propel their game even further under Arteta next season.

The one-time England international has been the Foxes most consistent, influential and pivotal figure in what’s been a tough season for the King Power outfit. The £45m-rated playmaker’s impressive haul of 16 goals and 11 assists is indeed a scintillating feat, highlighting just why he has got to be considered one of the best in his position in the English top flight.

If the north London outfit are serious about challenging the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea next season as well as making an impression in Europe’s most prestigious competition then they must go all out to acquire Maddison and even Tieleman’s services this summer.

It will be a significant statement of intent.

AND in other news, £49.5m-rated “genius” ace can be Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas 2.0 – opinion…
