Arsenal are keeping tabs on Federico Dimarco as Mikel Arteta widens his search for a new defender in the market.

WHAT’S THE TALK?

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Federico Dimarco is attracting the interest of Arsenal, as the Inter Milan star has emerged as a transfer target for the north London side.

It does appear that the Nerazzurri are in no mood to sell him. He signed a new contract last year until 2026. And Simone Inzaghi views him as an important player.

However, Tuttomercatoweb suggests that an offer of around £21.3m could tempt the Italian giants to consider a sale as the Gunners’ primary requirement is to bring a backup left-back, who could also slot in central defence if needed.

UPGRADE ON TAVARES

In contrast, if he was to move to north London, the £14.4m-rated defender would be competing for a place with Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares.

The Scottish full-back has established himself as a reliable player for Arsenal. However, some questions have been asked of last summer’s signing Tavares, despite a promising start to his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Dimarco, who made 42 appearances in all competitions this season, could be a considerable upgrade on the Portuguese full-back.

Despite not featuring as a first-teamer in Inzaghi’s XI, the Milano-born defender has still managed to contribute successfully to the Nerazzuri’s cause, averaging a brilliant SofaScore rating of 7.11, registering two goals and two assists in Serie A from just 13 starts, also creating an impressive eight big chances for his teammates, whilst also averaging 1.5 key passes and successfully completing 63% of his dribbles.

He’s also contributed defensively when called upon too, featuring in various positions on Inter’s left-flank, whether at wing-back or the left-hand side of Inzaghi’s three-man backline. He’s won 56% of his total duels, averaging 1.9 per game.

If the Gunners were to invest in Dimarco, he could almost certainly become a swiss-army knife-type player filling in professionally and consummately when Arteta needs him most, just like he has for Inter Milan.
