Arsenal are “one of the main contenders” to sign Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

THE LOWDOWN: CITY EXIT

The Brazilian first arrived in the Premier League when he joined the Sky Blues from Palmeiras six years ago, but with just 12 months remaining on his current contract at the Etihad, his future at the club has been up in the air after the versatile forward informed City he wants to leave this summer to a team who could provide him with more guaranteed minutes with the World Cup on the horizon this winter.

According to The Athletic, the £90,000 per-week star is the Gunners’ number one striker target as Mikel Arteta aims to address his depleted forward line following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in 2022.

The 25-year-old has been attracting huge interest, in particular from north London, and it looks as though Arteta’s side hold the advantage over their rivals in the race for his signature.

THE LATEST: MAIN CONTENDER

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Taylor said: “Jesus has been offered around a fair bit in the last two weeks.

“I think Real Madrid have been approached about signing him, Chelsea as well, he was one floated to Chelsea, but Arsenal are one of the main contenders for Jesus.

He obviously worked with Arteta when he was the assistant to Pep, so I do think that works as a benefit to Arsenal.”

THE VERDICT: GET IT DONE

The 56-cap international, who was once hailed the “best in the world” by his manager Pep Guardiola would be a sensational capture for Arteta.

The former Palmeiras forward would be the outright number one striker at the Emirates and has considerably proven himself a top-tier forward in the English top-flight with 58 goals and 32 assists in 159 appearances despite not being Guardiola’s main man on numerous occasions and playing outside his natural habitat upfront.

Considering Jesus’ high-ceiling and incredible potential, the quoted £50m needed to secure his signature could well be the perfect deal for the Gunners in the long run. Arteta must get it done.
