Pundit and ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has strongly suggested that the Gunners could sell Kieran Tierney at the right price.

Tierney has impressed since his £25m move from Celtic in 2019 despite on-and-off injury problems, registering 85 Arsenal appearances across all competitions.

The 25-year-old Scotland international has been previously linked with a move to Manchester City in recent weeks, with Guardiola seeing him as an alternative to top target Mar Cucurella from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Reports from Football Scotland claim hat ‘no offer has been forthcoming’ and add that ‘the general feeling among the player’s camp is that he will stick around with his contract running till 2026.

However, Campbell has argued that the Gunners’ heads could turn providing an attractive offer comes in.

He told Football Insider:

“He won’t go but football is a business at the end of the day.

“If Manchester City made it work in whatever way and it was beneficial for Arsenal then maybe they would be compelled to do the business.

“You have to remember, players will come and go. It would have to be worth Arsenal’s while if they were to let him go though.

“People talk about him being captain material. He has really suffered with injuries though. It might be something that Arteta looks at and says, ‘ Let’s do the business.’

“It would all depend on what City would be willing to offer.”

Our thoughts on Campbell’s comments…

Certainly, Tierney has been plagued by injuries during his spell as an Arsenal player, however we disagree with Campbell’s claims. It does not mean Arsenal should go on an do business because of it.

The 32-time Scottish international is a terrific player, and a pivotal outlet for Mikel Arteta, not just because of his leadership but also his undoubted qualities at left-back for the Gunners.

Arsenal sorely missed the £28.8m-rated full-back as they narrowly missed out on a top-four spot to their fiercest rivals Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the Premier League campaign, and if the player can come back firing in pre-season and get back into tip top fettle for the new campaign, then there’s no reason why he can’t steer clear of the niggling injuries next term.

He’s too good a player to let go.
