According to reports, Arsenal are set to accept an offer for midfielder Lucas Torreira amid Mikel Arteta’s transfer decision.

THE LOWDOWN: SQUAD TRIMMING

Having brought in five new players to the Emirates this season, Arsenal have struggled to offload most of the unwanted players during this window, and Uruguayan midfielder, Torreira, is a part of a long list of players. Players on the list include Nicolas Pepe, Pablo Mari, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Bernd Leno.

Torreira has spent the last two seasons out on loan with Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina after arriving from Sampdoria in a deal worth £25million in 2018. The Uruguayan has probably received more offers than every other player on the list but Arsenal’s insistence on getting the right fee for him has hindered his exit from the club.

Fiorentina, where he spent last season, had an option to make the deal a permanent one but failed to meet Arsenal’s valuation that was placed in the loan deal. While Valencia agreed on personal terms with the midfielder and were keen to bring him to Spain, their proposal was way off the club’s valuation.

A new club in Galatasaray has now emerged as the diminutive midfielder’s next possible destination as the Gunners look to trim down their squad ahead of the new season.

THE LATEST: TURKISH DELIGHT

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have received a proposal from Turkish giants Galatasaray for Lucas Torreira. The deal would be a permanent transfer and the clubs are now waiting for Torreira to agree on personal terms, with the Gunners also ready to accept the deal.

As per Calciomercato, the 26-year-old has been offered a three-year deal with the option for a further year and would earn over £3million a year. Torreira has just a year left on his current deal at the Emirates and the Gunners are keen to receive a transfer fee for the Uruguay international rather than lose him on a free next summer.

THE VERDICT: CLEAR-OUT ALMOST COMPLETE

Since the arrival of Edu as Arsenal’s Technical director, coupled with Mikel Arteta’s appointment as manager in December 2019, the direction of signings made by the club has changed a lot. Interestingly, every signing of the former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat have been virtually shipped out.

The list includes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Dinos Mavropanos, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Bernd Leno, Sokratis, Matteo Guendouzi, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Lucas Torreira who is on the verge of leaving the side.

If Arsenal get a fee close to their valuation for Torreira, it would be a good move for all parties, as the midfielder will get the move he desires and Galatasaray will get a combative midfielder that gives his all.
