Arsenal are reportedly interested in bringing in another midfielder, and this could mean a formal bid submitted for Arthur Melo.

THE LOWDOWN: ACTIVE ARSENAL

According to Rudy Galetti, Arsenal are preparing an official offer for Juventus midfielder, Arthur Melo. The Gunners have been very active in the summer transfer window, having completed the signings of Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos.

The announcement of Oleksandr Zinchenko’s signing is also imminent. However, it appears that the Gunners are not done in the market, with new reports suggesting that a new midfielder could be next.

Three notable names on their shortlist, include Lucas Paqueta, Youri Tielemans, and Arthur Melo. The Brazillian appears not to be in Massimiliano Allegri’s plans for next season, as has been obvious since January. Juventus have added new midfield options in Denis Zakaria and Paul Pogba.

Arthur was reportedly interested in making the move to the Emirates as far back as January and things appear to remain the same, as he has failed to cement a regular spot in Juventus since joining from Barcelona.

THE LATEST: REIGNITED INTEREST

As per reports from Rudy Galetti, Arsenal have reignited their interest in Arthur Melo, as they look to give their midfield more quality in depth.

Although no official bid has been made, the possibility for a deal to happen is high if the Gunners make the move. Arthur needs a new home where he is trusted and he is open to joining Arsenal.

He had agreed to join the Gunners in January but both clubs couldn’t agree on a loan fee.

THE VERDICT: WRONG PROFILE

Arsenal’s squad is shaping up nicely, following the type of signings made so far. The club has addressed key areas in the team and increased the quality in depth.

However, Arthur Melo’s profile is more of a defensive midfielder operating at the base of the midfield. Arsenal currently have Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny as options in that position. Sambi Lokonga has also played the position several times, as he understudies Thomas Partey.

Given the profiles of other midfield targets like Tielemans and Paqueta, one would see that Arsenal have been moving for a midfielder who can contribute in the midfield and the final third. Arthur Melo’s profile is more of a dictator than a box-to-box midfielder.
