According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Arsenal cannot compete financially with Chelsea for Manchester City superstar Raheem Sterling.

THE LOWDOWN: SET TO LEAVE?

Since his move to City in 2015, the England international has enhanced his reputation by becoming a household name and an established Premier League star.

During his time with Pep Guardiola’s side, the 27-year-old, who is currently valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, has scored 131 goals and provided 95 assists in 339 appearances across all competitions, winning 12 trophies along the way.

He only has 12 months remaining on his deal at the Etihad and the winger’s future has been thrown up in the air after reports claim that Chelsea are interested in signing the England superstar this window.

Arsenal have previously been linked too, but Jones believes that the Gunners simply cannot compete financially with the Blues.

THE LATEST: CAN’T COMPETE

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said:

“There have been whispers of Arsenal going for Sterling but there is very little chance of them jumping in on that deal to revenge at Chelsea for bidding on Raphinha.

“The main issue, away from the level they’re at, is the wages. I’m told they just can’t compete at his pay level.”

THE VERDICT: CHELSEA BOUND

The 74-time England international, who has been labeled as an “exceptional” player by Guardiola, will indeed be a sensational capture for the Gunners if he was to somehow join this summer.

However, Jones is right, the north London outfit simply cannot compete with the Blues in terms of astronomical fees and wages offered to players, meaning a potential deal for the Kingston-born superstar may prove a huge stumbling block.

The forward does indeed look on his way to Chelsea, especially considering they are in the Champions League next term – a luxury Arsenal do not possess – and while that may hurt the Gunners faithful, it is one they must accept and move past.
