Arsenal remain in the hunt to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Dutch sensation Cody Gakpo this summer, and could make a move if their efforts for Raphinha fails.

THE LOWDOWN: GAKPO INTEREST

The Gunners have been strongly linked with the talented forward for some time now as Mikel Arteta aims to bolster the quality in his attacking weaponry.

The club have already secured the signature of Fabio Vieira from FC Porto this summer, and are close to announcing a £45m deal for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, also they are locked in a battle with Chelsea for Leeds United forward Raphinha, a deal which looks as if they are missing out on.

However, if the north London outfit are to carry out their interest in the 23-year-old hitman, they must act quickly if latest reports are to be true.

THE LATEST: LEEDS PUSH

According to journalist Alfonso Leocadio, Leeds United are expected to push through a move for Gakpo once they have sold Raphinha.

However, Arsenal could in the frame for the forward’s services providing they fail with a deal for the Whites wizard Raphinha.

THE VERDICT: GET HIM IN

With Raphinha close to sealing a move to Chelsea, the Gunners will now have to look at alternatives options in the market and PSV’s attacking starlet Gakpo fits the bill perfectly for Mikel Arteta.

The Dutch wonderkid proved a revelation for Roger Schmidt’s men, possessing a WhoScored rating of 7.79 last campaign, the third-best in the Dutch top-flight, behind Luis Sinisterra (7.88) and Ajax’s Dusan Tadic (7.80).

Considering the sheer amount of potential and ceiling the £22.5m-rated attacker currently possesses in his impressive weaponry, it is deal KSE must prioritise this summer.

Indeed, over his 26 Eredivisie appearances this campaign, the seven-time Netherlands international forward has been in sensational form for PSV, scoring 12 goals, and laying on 13 assists and creating ten big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of three shots and making 2.5 key passes per game, highlighting his stunning influence in the attacking third.

Gakpo has also shone on the European front too, bagging a further nine goals and registering two more assists over 20 appearances in domestic and European cup competitions, taking his haul for the campaign to 21 goals and 15 assists over 45 outings.

With the Gunners embarking on a UEFA Europa League journey next term, the Eindhoven-born hitman will certainly prove a trustworthy performer on that stage after last season’s antics.
