Arsenal have reportedly been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Lyon midfielder, Lucas Paqueta, after a new development came to light.

THE LOWDOWN: A BOOST FOR ARSENAL

According to reports, Lucas Paqueta has informed Lyon of his decision to leave the club. Arsenal are among the suitors and have been handed a huge boost by the Ligue 1 outfit.

Mikel Arteta has been in the window for an option to bolster his midfield, with names like Youri Teleimans and Lucas Paqueta among the options. Although Fabio Vieira’s arrival from Porto helps in this regard, the Gunners’ boss wants more quality.

Lyon initially wanted a fee in the region of €80million (£68million) for the midfielder to move, as the 24-year-old still has three years left in his current contract with the club. However, according to Media Foot, the French side are now prepared to accept a fee in the region of €40million (£34million).

The Brazilian international arrived at Lyon from AC Milan after a torrid time in Italy. He has since rejuvenated his career in France, appearing 77 times for Lyon, scoring 21 goals in those games. He has also represented the Brazilian national team 33 times.

THE LATEST: ARSENAL FACE COMPETITION

Arsenal are not the only club in for Paqueta, with other Premier League clubs like Newcastle United also weighing up a move.

The Magpies have an established relationship with Lyon, having recently signed Bruno Guimares from the French team.

Although Arsenal also have a relationship with the club, having signed Alexandre Lacazette, who is now back with the French club.

THE VERDICT: A SWIFT DECISION NEEDED

Arsenal clearly want another midfielder in the team despite the arrival of Fabio Vieira. Youri Tielemans has been the most prominently linked name with the club, but now Paqueta has become an option.

Arsenal must decide swiftly on the player they why to bring in between these two and conclude the transfer. The Premier League resumes in a few weeks and it might be unfavorable to still be without a decision by then.
