Uruguayan international Lucas Torreira says there is ‘no chance’ he will stay at Arsenal for the final year of his contract.
THE LOWDOWN: FIORENTINA BID REJECTED
The 26-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell in Serie A playing a key role in Fiorentina’s side.
The Italian club were keen to keep Torreira, who was signed by Arsenal for £26m in 2018, on a permanent deal, but had an approach knocked back in which the player’s agent confirmed.
His agent also stated that the midfielder loved the city of Florence and was expecting to return to the Italian outfit this summer, and has so far stated his displeasure at how he’s been treated by the Gunners.
THE LATEST: NO CHANCE
When asked about the prospect of staying at Arsenal, Torreira told El Telegrafo: “There is no chance.
“From the beginning they told me that I didn’t have a place, so I don’t want to stay either because I suffered a lot, it cost me a lot to adapt and my idea is to go to Italy or Spain.
“What I wanted was to stay at Fiorentina, but it didn’t happen for various reasons, so we’ll look for a new direction.”
THE VERDICT: LET HIM GO
The £18m-rated ace has enjoyed a stunning campaign for La Viola, featuring in 31 games and registering five goals and one assist as the club finished seventh in Serie A picking up a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League for next season.
With the Gunners looking to strengthen in the midfield areas, and their immediate plans to reshape the whole squad, what’s the point in keeping a player they clearly do not need?
The Uruguayan international desperately needs a new challenge elsewhere in which Fiorentina could well have been the perfect platform for him to develop further on a permanent basis.
The Gunners should accept whatever offer comes in and move on from the 26-year-old ace.
