Arsenal are eyeing up a move to sign £34m-rated Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio after seeing a move for Raphinha hijacked by Chelsea.

THE LOWDOWN: EXPECTED TO LEAVE

The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his Real Madrid contract and is yet to agree a fresg deal in the Spanish capital.

The Champions of Europe may decide this summer is the best time to sell the player, as a number of clubs have supposedly declared interest in his signature.

AC Milan have reportedly made contact for the player, while the Gunners are on the hunt for additional attacking recruits after sealing a move for Fabio Vieira and are close to completing a deal for Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

The Gunners are also in pursuit of Leeds winger Raphinha, though Chelsea have suddenly stolen a march on the Brazilian after reportedly agreeing a deal with Leeds United last night. Now, the Gunners have turned their attentions elsewhere.

THE LATEST: SUPPORTER OF THE OPERATION

According to AS, Arsenal are eyeing a move for the Real Madrid winger Asensio as Mikel Arteta is a ‘great supporter of the operation’ to sign the Spanish international this summer.

The Spanish outlet says Madrid will cash-in if £34m is put on the table but the north London outfit face competition from Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus who are hoping to lure the 26-year-old to Italy.

THE VERDICT: STEER CLEAR

After losing out on a move for Raphinha, Real Madrid’s Spanish playmaker does seem the ideal alternative for Arteta to look at this summer, and the former Manchester City assistant coach could well do wonders with his Spanish counterpart in north London.

The 26-year-old is capable of playing in a variety of positions playing on either wing or in a no.10 role, offering a variety of ways in maximizing Arsenal’s attacking potential, however the Gunners may well have already acquired that sort of player in Fabio Vieira who possesses similar attributes to the Los Blancos superstar.

It makes you wonder Arteta really needs Asensio when he’s now got a perfectly capable and quality versatile playmaker waiting in the wings to stake his claim in the Gunners squad.

Signing the £117k-per-week star may prove too problematic for Arteta, considering the amount of similar stars in his squad such as Emile Smith Rowe, and Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka who can all operate in differing roles within the Gunners attack too.

Maybe KSE must steer clear of a move for the 39-time Spanish international, no matter how attractive a potential deal may be.
