Arsenal are reportedly leading the race for Brazilian starlet Marquinhos, with Wolves also in the hunt for the versatile forward from Sao Paulo…

The Gunners aim to build on a successful transitional season under Mikel Arteta as they eye several key players to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

They remain the favourites to finish in the top four ahead of Tottenham, which would allow them to spend a bit more fluidly in the coming window.

After strengthening the defence and goalkeeping positions in the previous summer, Arteta is likely to focus on reinforcing the attacking side of the team.

While the current crop have performed very well, the manager is keen to add competition for existing stars such as Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka.

And they have reportedly identified a hot prospect to join their charge next season.

According to Brazilian outlet geglobo (via transfer journalist Rudy Galetti), the north London outfit are leading the race for Sao Paulo’s 19-year-old starlet Marquinhos, and have made an offer to the Brazilian club to acquire his services.

Wolves are also reportedly looking at the versatile forward, although it seems the Gunners are in pole position to sign him.

It’s no secret that the club are searching for a wide attacker in the summer, with the likes of Cody Gakpo, who’s enjoyed a sensational season for PSV Eindhoven and Raheem Sterling who’s a Premier League proven-quality star, and former player Serge Gnabry reportedly on Arteta’s radar this summer.

There is no doubt, the 19-year-old is a versatile forward who primarily plays on the right-hand side. He can also slot in through the middle, making him an attractive prospect for the Gunners boss to consider.

The £6.3m-rated wonderkid has three goals to show for his cause from 15 games in all competitions this term. These are not great numbers from the outside looking in but the player has proven a key figure for Sao Paulo in the Brazilian Série A 2022.

However, with the Gunners on the verge of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, the club do need more quality additions to further bolster their attacking quota next season, so signing an unknown quantity in Marquinhos should not be at the top of the club’s agenda this summer.
