Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has urged the club to sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.

THE LOWDOWN: A GOOD OPTION?

Since N’golo Kante moved to Chelsea from Leicester, he has been a bedrock of the team, helping the London side to the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup titles. He has appeared 260 times for the club, winning the Premier League Player of the Season once.

However, the 31-year-old midfielder might be preparing for a move away from Stamford Bridge after an underwhelming season where he struggled to stay fit.

According to former Arsenal star Campbell, N’golo Kante remains one of the best in his positions in the world even though the level of his performance has dropped. He has therefore urged Mikel Arteta to make a move for the World Cup winner.

Kante appeared 26 times in the Premier League last season, as Chelsea finished third in the league. With the likes of Connor Gallagher back at Chelsea from loan, Kante might not feature as much next season.

THE LATEST: A PARTEY BACK-UP?

Speaking to Football Insider on if Arsenal should sign Kante, Kevin Campbell said: ‘For me, if the money was right – I’d do it straight away.

“Kante is someone who knows how to operate in the Premier League, that’s for sure. Yes, he suffered a few injuries last season, but his numbers are still frightening.

“He’s still one of the best around, and that midfield area is still a massive problem area for Arsenal.”

“We’ve seen them play games where the midfield just can’t get a grip – especially when Thomas Partey isn’t there.”

“We need someone else who knows how to navigate and dominate. I don’t think there has been a better exponent of that midfield engine room in recent years than N’Golo Kante.”

THE VERDICT: NOT FEASIBLE

An N’golo Kante in the Arsenal team means experience, resourcefulness, and work ethic. However, it doesn’t look feasible as Arsenal have recently given Mo El Neny a new contract.

Mo El Neny proved to all last season that he can be a reliable backup to Partey. Arsenal adding a potentially high-earning player in Kante will likely create an imbalance, with the likes of Lokonga still struggling to get games.

The prospect of having Ngolo Kante might be mouthwatering, but it’s a risk given his recent injury problems. He might never hit form again, and at 31, that will be a bad investment for the club.
