Arsenal and West Ham United are reportedly interested in Lille’s 20-year-old defensive midfielder Amadou Onana.

THE LOWDOWN: BRILLIANT DEBUT SEASON

Since joining the French Ligue 1 club in the summer of 2021 from HSV Hamburg, the 20-year-old starlet has been on an upwards trajectory in terms of form.

Onana has attracted some interest from top clubs after a brilliant debut season for Lille.

While he has not been an absolute starter, the midfielder has often proved a reliable option from the bench.

Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the French outfit will certainly look to get more from the current market, particularly from Premier League clubs.

THE LATEST: OPEN TO OFFERS

According to Foot Mercato, Lille could be open to offers for young midfielder Amadou Onana, with the Ligue 1 outfit needing to raise significant cash through player sales in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal, West Ham United and AS Monaco are all quoted as having an interest in the extremely talented midfield ace.

THE VERDICT: A WORTHY SUCCESSOR

Described as ‘one of the most sought-after talents in Europe’ in the report, Onana would appear to be coming of age at the perfect time to potentially succeed in England – he has been hailed as a “huge talent” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig following his outstanding Ligue 1 performances.

With Xhaka’s current contract at the Emirates wining down, the uncapped Belgian star could prove a worthy successor to the Gunners midfielder.

Standing at 6 foot 3 and boasting impressive attributes in both defensive and attacking traits (WhoScored), the talented Belgian would be a smart addition for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal this summer, as they look to bolster their midfield options this summer.
Under contract until 2026 (Transfermarkt), signing the young midfield colossus would cost €20-25million (£16.6-£20.7million) according to previous reports, with Kulig claiming Lille will soon sell up for a “small fortune“.
