THE LOWDOWN: SCAMACCA INTEREST
The Gunners are set for an incredibly busy transfer window where the focus will be placed on strengthening the current squad with quality in a bid to further their ambitions under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal will be desperate to bring in at least one new centre forward this summer.
Arteta’s troops look light in attack with Alexandre Lacazette’s return to Lyon on a free transfer confirmed on Thursday morning. And the club are still awaiting a decision from Eddie Nketiah after offering the homegrown star a new deal.
As a result, they have been linked with a number of forwards already this summer including Sassuolo’s talented hitman.
It is believed the Gunners have already placed a bid which was rejected by the Serie A outfit. And now the club have informed the north London outfit of what is expected to secure his signature.
THE LATEST: INCREASE OFFER
Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sports Witness) claims the north London club’s first offer to Sassuolo was £27.2m (€32m) plus bonuses to take the overall proposal to just over £34m. However, that is not enough for the Serie A club.
The outlet says Sassuolo want the Gunners to up their offer by a further £8.5m (€10m) to reach a total of £42.5m. They would be willing to accept part of that fee as bonuses but they are clear Arsenal’s first bid was not enough.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be interested in the forward.
THE VERDICT: SIGN HIM UP
The £27m-rated striker has emerged as one of the most promising strikers on the continent and his goal record for Sassuolo highlights as much.
Nicknamed “Il Bomber”, Scamacca has been called “deadly” by talent scout Jacek Kulig and dubbed “a bit Zlatan-ish” by sports journalist Maxi Angelo.
In just his first full season in the Italian top flight, the Rome-born forward has excelled beyond expectations, scoring 16 goals in 36 outings.
Because of his seemingly high ceiling, currently aged just 23, Arsenal would be foolish not to take up Sassuolo on their demands and sign him this summer.
The 6 foot 5 hitman is described by Whoscored as strong in the air and someone who ‘likes to tackle’, so perhaps he could be the perfect man to spearhead Arteta’s new look Arsenal attack next season.
