Arsenal have held talks over a summer move for Gabriel Jesus and the Manchester City forward is giving serious consideration to the transfer, his agent has said.

THE LOWDOWN: GUNNERS INTEREST

Back in April, The Athletic reported that the north London outfit were exploring the possibility of signing striker Jesus from the Etihad in the summer transfer window.

Discussions between Arsenal’s technical director Edu and Jesus’s representatives were believed to have taken place for a number of months and the 25-year-old is thought to be open to the prospect of joining the Gunners.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen their attack in the upcoming market with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah on expiring contracts and Jesus — who joined City from Palmeiras in 2016 — is one potential acquisition.

Now, his agent has provided a promising update for Arsenal fans on the potential move.

THE LATEST: LIKE THE PROJECT

On Wednesday Marcelo Pettinati spoke (via Fabrizio Romano) about his client’s future.

“We had talks with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus,” the agent said. “We like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing. There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel. He’s focused on the final games with Man City; we’ll see.”

THE VERDICT: FUTURE GUNNERS STAR

Considering the potential and ability the 54-time Brazilian international holds, he would indeed be a sensational capture for Mikel Arteta and would go on to become a Gunners star.

Despite not being a regular under Pep Guardiola in his favoured position at the Etihad Stadium, he’s still managed to bag a tremendous 95 goals and 46 assists since his move to England.

That is 141 goal contributions in 234 appearances, which makes for astonishing reading, and makes you wonder what his scoring record would be like had he been a regular at the Citizens.

So far this campaign he has excelled, despite Guardiola’s constant rotation in attack, bagging eight goals and nine assists from just 1,698 minutes of Premier League football.

He ranks sixth in the English top-flight for goals + assists per90 (0.85) and fifth for xA (expected assists) per90 (0.28) suggesting that whenever he is on the pitch, he is more than capable becoming a strong influence in the City team either through scoring or assisting goals.

So imagine how he’d fare with regular game time and opportunities at the Emirates next season.
