Arsenal have reportedly made contact with AS Roma over the possible signing of Nicolo Zaniolo in the January window.
THE LOWDOWN: WINTER BUSINESS DISAPPOINTMENT
Arsenal’s business this January have not gone according to plan at all. The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for some notable players like Mudryk (long-term target) and João Felix, but both joined Chelsea instead.
The North London outfit have followed the Zaniolo situation before now and would be keen to make an approach.
Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Mikel Arteta’s side have made contact with the Serie A side over the Italian winger.
THE LATEST: OFFICIAL CONTACT
Roma are apparently getting ready to lose their 23-year-old winger, Nicolo Zaniolo, with Arsenal said to be interested in the winger.
Arsenal were first linked with a move for Zaniolo (19 years at the time) four years ago when Unai Emery and Raul Sanllehi made contact with the player’s agent about a possible loan in the summer of 2019.
The story barely lasted days in the media, as his client went ahead to sign a new deal with the Capital club.
At the moment, the player has not agreed a new contract with Roma and, discussions over a possible move to Arsenal are on once again.
THE VERDICT: DIFFICULT DEAL
Zaniolo’s current contract expires next summer and Roma value him at between €30m and €40m.
As things stand, they have no interest in any sort of loan deal, unless it comes with an obligation to buy.
Arsenal may not be willing to push for such a deal this January and may want to wait till the summer.
