Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a shock move for Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney after missing out on Marc Cucurella to Chelsea.

THE LOWDOWN: INJURY-HIT ARSENAL CAREER

The Scottish defender began his Arsenal career on a high after spending some time outside the team due to injury. He arrived from Celtic in a transfer fee worth £25 million and to a large extent has been decent in an Arsenal shirt.

However, his recent struggles with injuries has made Arsenal go into the window and get players to fill his place. Nuno Tavares, who was bought from Benfica last summer, failed in Tierney’s absence and has been subsequently loaned out to Marseille.

This summer, a Premier League winner in Oleksandr Zinchenko, was snapped up from Manchester City and it seems the right competition has come for the 25-year-old.

THE LATEST: CITY LINKS

Manchester City could reportedly switch their attentions from new Chelsea signing Marc Cucurella to Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney after missing out on the Spaniard in one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer.

And with Chelsea plumping to sign him for a fee that could rise to £62m, City have reportedly turned their attention to Tierney as a secondary option.

According to The Telegraph (as relayed by The Daily Record), the report claims that Tierney has fallen behind in the pecking order to Zinchenko, after picking up injuries throughout the course of last season.

If Tierney ends up joining for a fee of around £50m as quoted per the Telegraph, Celtic would land a windfall of around £4-£7.5m after their sell-on fee that was inserted into a deal when they sold him in 2019.

THE VERDICT: CAN’T AFFORD TO LOSE HIM

Arsenal have been busy offloading many unwanted players and are clearing up space in the squad. Allowing a big member of the squad like Tierney to leave would not be a wise decision.

Mikel Arteta’s team is near perfect already and the defender, who is under contract until 2026, still remains an asset to the team despite his injury worries.

If Arsenal are keen to compete with the top sides in the league, big players like Tierney have to stay put at the Emirates at this crucial time.
