Arsenal are in the market for a new winger and Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise becomes the latest to be linked with a move to the Emirates.
THE LOWDOWN: CONTINOUS WINGER SEARCH
Despite some decent business this summer window, manager Mikel Arteta is not relenting at bringing in some other players in key areas. The likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City as well as Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira have been added to address key areas in the team. Just like Edu emphasized, more faces are expected in the team.
Top on the wishlist is a winger, which has become a necessity in order to take some burden off star man Bukayo Saka on the right wing. Bayern Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, PSV’s Cody Gakpo, and Portuguese Pedro Neto have been mentioned alongside the London club in recent weeks.
Just a few hours after being linked with Villarreal’s Yeremi Pino, the Gunners could be making a move for Crystal Palace’s Micahel Olise before the end of the window.
THE LATEST: ENGLISH TARGET
According to AllNigeriaSoccer, Arsenal have turned their attention to the former Reading star and the Gunners could make an official move before the window closes.
Olise made 31 appearances for Palace last season, scoring four times and contributing eight assists in all competitions.
THE VERDICT: GOOD FIT BUT COULD BE EXPENSIVE
The transfer window business has been good as Arsenal have spent over £100m on signings and could still spend more before the window closes as a forward or CM appears to be the priority.
Olise, without any doubt, fits Arsenal’s current transfer policy perfectly, and has the kind of quality that could be a huge boost to the first team and a decent backup for Bukayo Saka on the right wing. The 20-year-old is hugely talented and highly rated by the Palace hierarchy and he is one of their prized assets.
He is presently valued at €22million and has four years left on his current deal with the Eagles. That alone gives the idea that Palace would not sell him on a cheap, even if the offer is enticing to the player.
Instead of spending that much on a player who is going to be a backup, Arsenal can decide to keep the funds, while summer arrival Marquinhos is given the chance to feature in the first team.
