RC Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure is attracting plenty of interest from Premier League sides this summer, with Arsenal amongst the interested parties.

WHAT’S THE TALK?

According to Mirror Football, Doucoure is set to leave Lens this summer for the Premier League.

Arsenal, Brighton and Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and Everton have all registered their interest in the midfielder.

Italian-based Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur has also confirmed that the Gunners hold an interest in the talented young midfielder.

BETTER THAN ELNENY

The 22-year-old has been a kingpin for the Ligue 1 outfit this term, making 34 appearances across all competitions this term with his side finishing in an impressive seventh place.

Moreover, the Malian has scored one goal and registered four assists from defensive midfield this term and already boasts eight senior caps for African giants Mali.

It’s no surprise that Arsenal are linked with midfielders this summer as Arteta looks to bolster his squad with more quality as they aim to build on their impressive progress and development under the Spaniard and Doucoure could be a stunning acquisition to the Gunners’ exciting young squad.

Valued at £9m, the 22-year-old could make the move to England for a bargain fee. Moreover, in a performance against Nice last month, journalist Andrés Onrubia Ramos claimed that the Malian was “destroying everyone.”

In Ligue 1 this season, the defensive midfielder has averaged 67.8 touches a match whilst completing 48.7 passes at an accuracy of 87%, 1.1 key passes per game and creating 5 big chances for his teammates.

Furthermore, the midfield destroyer doesn’t shy away from the dirty work, contributing two interceptions, 2.2 tackles and 0.7 clearances a game.

Compared to Mohamed Elneny, the Malian’s stats are generally better.

The Egyptian international averages fewer touches with 46.1 whilst completing less than Doucoure’s passes at 37.7 but at a higher accuracy of 93%. Doucoure also averages better defensive stats than the Arsenal man, who averages 1.0 interceptions, 1.1 tackles and 0.8 clearances per game.

Providing Mikel Arteta doesn’t secure his top midfield targets in Youri Tielemans and Ruben Neves, then going for the Bamako-born star’s services represents very astute business.

AND in other news, Arsenal target £18m-rated gem who’s the “next Mbappe”, could solve Arteta’s big issue – opinion…
