Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are interested in signing Arsenal and transfer target Lautaro Martinez, according to reports…

THE LOWDOWN: PREMIER LEAGUE LINKS

Arsenal and Tottenham have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old since last year, while Manchester United are also said to have joined the race for the prolific forward.

Martinez has scored 74 goals for Inter since 2018, helping the club to their first Serie A title in 11 years last season, as well as winning the Copa America with Argentina last summer.

His success and form over the past few years has led to him becoming one of Europe’s most prized assets, hence the amount of interest from top clubs.

His agent Alejandro Camano has recently played down the rumours regarding the striker’s future, however, that hasn’t stopped the Blues from signifying their interest in the forward.

THE LATEST: CONSIDERING MOVE

According to The Athletic, the West Londoners are considering a move to bring the Argentinian to Stamford Bridge as Tuchel looks to bolster his attacking weaponry ahead of next season.

Chelsea reportedly want to pair the striker with Romelu Lukaku, with the two players having played together at Inter Milan, winning the Serie A title in 2020/21.

The Times reported earlier this month that Martinez has turned down Arsenal because the Gunners will not play in the Champions League next season.

THE VERDICT: HE’D CHOOSE CHELSEA

Chelsea are indeed a major threat to Arsenal in regard to signing Martinez.

Considering their ambitions, and the strong likelihood of a more successful challenge to the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season, and the Blues’ regular participation in the UEFA Champions League, it is safe to assume that the 24-year-old forward will almost certainly choose the Blues if he does leave the San Siro this summer.

The 37-time Argentina international has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining Inter Milan from Racing Club in the summer of 2018 for just €20m (£18m).

The Bahía Blanca-born striker has established himself as a mainstay in the Nerazzurri’s attacking unit and has swiftly become one of the most fearsome finishers on the continent, racking up 181 appearances while amassing a tally of 98 goal contributions (74 goals, 24 assists) in the process.

The £76k-per-week hitman, dubbed “spectacular” by compatriot Lionel Messi would be a perfect addition to the English top-flight, potentially becoming an instant hit wherever he ends up. It’s a shame that it will most likely not be at Arsenal.
