Arsenal have expressed interest in Brighton winger Leandro Trossard, according to reports…

THE LOWDOWN: CRUCIAL FIGURE

The Belgium international, who joined Brighton from Genk in the summer of 2019 for £15m, has grown to become a crucial figure in the Seagulls camp, going on to make 104 appearances for the south coast club.

In 100 top-flight outings, he has scored 18 goals and provided 11 assists. He is a consistent regular for Graham Potter’s side, featuring in 34 of their 38 Premier League matches during the 2021/22 campaign.

Valued at £15.3m by Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old is out of contract in just over 12 months’ time and the Gunners are reportedly in the frame along with Newcastle United for his signature.

THE LATEST: EXPRESS INTEREST

According to Belgian outlet Voetbal Belgie, the north London outfit have expressed an interest in signing the forward.

The 27-year-old isn’t the first Belgian the Gunners have been linked to this summer, with Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans being a widely reported target for Mikel Arteta.

THE VERDICT: QUALITY ATTACKING OPTION

Brighton’s tricky Belgian wizard was in excellent form for the Seagulls last season, scoring eight goals in the league along with three assists in 34 appearances.

When considering those stats in a Graham Potter side that notoriously underperforms its xG (expected goals), the Red Devils star will be content with his output on the south coast.

Trossard’s versatility is a bonus for any potential suitors, with the 17-time Belgian international capable of playing anywhere across the forward line, in addition to fulfilling a midfield berth when required.

Last season, the Waterschei-born attacker played centre-forward on 14 occasions, left midfield 7 times, attacking midfield 6 times, and left winger 6 times.

He also scored against the Gunners in a 2-1 win over Mikel Arteta’s men at the Emirates Stadium back in early April, netting the first goal to set the Seagulls on their way to an unprecedented victory.

Arteta is known to value versatility amongst his players, evidenced through the outfield signings in 2021 all being capable of performing multiple roles. In having players perform at high-levels in multiple positions, the team is afforded a tactical flexibility not just on a game to game basis, but throughout a game itself.

Trossard would be indeed a quality attacking option for the Gunners.
