Arsenal and Barcelona are both interested in signing Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka.

THE LOWDOWN: RISING STAR

The 18-year-old graduated from the Bodymoor Heath academy to make the step up to senior football and has already made great strides in Steven Gerrard’s first team.

Despite his tender years, Chukwuemeka has made 13 appearances for the Villans, having scored 13 times and provided another 14 assists in 54 matches among various youth levels for the Midlands club.

However, out of contract in 2023 (Transfermarkt), attention has already turned to where the talented England under-19 international’s future may lie…

THE LATEST: INTEREST

According to SPORT, Barcelona and the Gunners hold an interest in Aston Villa’s 18-year-old midfield prospect.

The Catalan club’s officials, Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff met with the teenager’s representatives earlier this week.

The England youth international is out of contract next summer, and the Midlands club have attempted to tie him down to a new deal.

Villa boss Gerrard recently stated that there have been no discussions regarding a new deal for Chukwuemeka after fellow academy prospect Jacob Ramsey signed a contract until 2027.

THE VERDICT: PERFECT ADDITION

With Barcelona’s current financial trouble, Arsenal may have a free run at capturing the Villain’s young starlet, which means Arteta could well have another exciting and prestigious English talent to nurture and provide opportunities for, just like he’s done tremendously with Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White.

This season, Chukwuemeka – who has been a target for Liverpool in the past – provided one assist in nine Premier League outings whilst also continuing his fine development in the under-23 setup.

Described as “outstanding” by former Holte End favourite Paul Merson, the Eisenstadt-born midfielder is well on his way to becoming one of Europe’s most decorated young talents, and if the north London outfit want to continue in building a fledgling and promising young side for the future then investing in the 18-year-old’s future seems the perfect addition.
