Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly both interested in signing Ethan Nwaneri, with Arsenal having to fight hard to keep the youngster.

THE LOWDOWN: RECORD APPEARANCE

Nwaneri was relatively unknown when the season began and he didn’t come to the limelight until Arsenal’s Premier League game at Brentford.

While Arsenal cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win at the Community Stadium, Nwaneri came on as a substitute for Fabio Vieira in stoppage time to make his Arsenal debut, becoming the youngest player ever to play in the Premier League

THE LATEST: NWANERI TO LEAVE?

According to Football London, Chelsea are interested in acquiring winger Nwaneri from Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have also identified Nwaneri as a potential signing, which could result in a three-way battle for the player.

Since his debut for Arsenal, Nwaneri has not made a first-team appearance since then but he has continued to impress in the youth ranks, having scored seven goals in 13 appearances in all competitions this season.

Meanwhile, after handing Nwaneri his record-breaking debut, Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports: “He has trained a couple of times with us and I had a feeling yesterday that if the opportunity came I would do it.

“But I think it sends a strong message about who we are as a club. I told him yesterday he would be with us and he had to be ready. He is ready. When he went on I said ‘congratulations and enjoy it.

“I don’t know what it is. When I met him, when I looked at him, I had that feeling.”

THE VERDICT: KEEP HIM

Nwaneri is quite young and has a lot of years ahead of him. Arsenal can’t afford to lose such a prodigy to direct rivals. It should not happen.
