According to reports, Valencia are in talks to sign out-of-favour Lucas Torreira from Arsenal before the transfer window runs out.

THE LOWDOWN: SQUAD REDUCTION HEADACHE

Arsenal have struggled to offload unwanted players during this window, and Uruguayan midfielder, Torreira, is a part of a long list of players, which includes Nicolas Pepe, Pablo Mari, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and. Elsewhere, Bernd Leno is on the verge of completing a move to Fulham.

Torreira spent last season on loan at Fiorentina, where he played 31 times in the Serie A, scoring five goals and making one assist. Fiorentina had an option to make the deal a permanent one but failed to meet Arsenal’s valuation that was placed in the loan deal.

However, Torreira’s departure has not been hindered by a lack of suitors, but rather by Arsenal’s insistence on getting the right fee for him. In previous seasons, the Gunners allowed some players to leave for low fees and even went as far as paying off some of their unwanted stars but that seems to be over at the Emirates.

THE LATEST: CLOSE TO AN EXIT

Lucas Torreira’s agent confirmed that the player has reached an agreement with Valencia prior to Arsenal’s tour of the USA. The next step is for the Spanish club to reach an agreement with Arsenal.

There have also been recent rumours about interest from Juventus, as reports say Arsenal considered involving Torreira as part of a deal to lure Arthur Melo. However, it seems Valencia have a solid agreement with the midfielder and his agent.

Arsenal requested €15 million from Fiorentina for the permanent signing of Torreira, and considering how well he performed last season, the value will likely remain the same or increase. It remains to be seen if Valencia has the capability to pay such money and reach an agreement with Arsenal.

THE VERDICT: GOOD FOR ALL PARTIES

Lucas Torreira has made it known in the past about his inability to settle well in England. Although his performances have been decent whenever he got the chance, the club can’t afford to keep a player that doesn’t feel settled.

If Arsenal get their valuation for the Uruguayan, it would be a good move for all parties, as the midfielder will get the move he desires and Valencia will get a combative midfielder that gives his all.

It also means Arsenal would have gotten more money and freed up some squad space to accommodate more potential signings.
