Arsenal have unveiled new series of artworks at the Emirates Stadium, paying tribute to Highbury and club legends.

THE LOWDOWN: PLACE OF HISTORY

Arsenal is one of the most loved clubs with rich history and culture around London. In order to stay glued to that and not lose touch with history, the club has decided to replace the artwork around the Emirates for the first time since the Stadium was opened.

A total of eight new pieces of art were installed on the outside of the stadium, featuring club legends and a tribute to their former ground Highbury.

The designs were created by supporters alongside artists and graphic designers, including Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller.

THE LATEST: CELEBRATION

Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham told the club website: “This has been a fantastic project enabled by so many of the Arsenal family here in Islington and across the world.

“We genuinely couldn’t have brought this project to life without everyone working together and giving their passion and dedication to this work.

“The project has brought together our supporters, community, legends and staff as one.

“It’s a real celebration of the Arsenal community, designed for and by the Arsenal family.”

Former star Jack Wilshere, who is now the club’s Under-18s boss, remarked: “To be part of the artwork is really humbling and a big honour for me personally.

“But it also shows our commitment to developing young players and is a signal to them about seizing opportunities here.

“That’s a really important message for our young players but also for young people in our community.”

THE VERDICT: LOVELY GESTURE

It has been long overdue, considering the fact that Arsenal have been playing at the Emirates since 2006. It offers a sense of belonging to everyone in and around the club.
