Arsenal have been urged to sign a midfielder by Pundit Owen Hargreaves in order to take the Gunners to the next level.
THE LOWDOWN: NEAR PERFECT WINDOW
Arsenal have already done some business early this window. The arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Matt Turner, Marquinhos, and Fabio Vieira have added more quality to Mikel Arteta’s squad in great fashion as they seek to finish inside the top four this season.
Although there are still more signings to be completed according to Mikel Arteta, the Gunners have also seen the exits of Pablo Mari, Lucas Torreira, Folarin Balogun, Bernd Leno and Runar Alex Runarsson. However, there is still hope that they can bring in more players before September 1.
THE LATEST: MIDFIELDER ADVICE
Arsenal have been advised by pundit Owen Hargreaves to get an extra midfielder before the end of the summer window in order to take the team to the next level.
The Gunners have started the season brightly, winning their first three games, and are currently top of the Premier League log.
On the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Hargreaves said he thinks a top midfielder would make a real difference to Arsenal.
“Interestingly I think for Mikel and Edu, two central midfield players – I’d say that the weakest part of that team right now is probably there. I think that is probably where – they have really good pieces of the puzzle – I think you can invest big on a guy there to carry you to take the next step.”
“I think they are really close but maybe one guy that can make a difference is that central midfield position.
THE VERDICT: HARGREAVES IS RIGHT
The Arsenal XI looks well balanced but it requires some quality on the bench. Meanwhile, Hargreaves is clearly not saying Arsenal’s midfield is poor, but that a new face of the right quality there would take the team up a notch.
Probably because of his versatility, Oleksandr Zinchenko could feature in midfield when Kieran Tierney is fit to start a game at left-back. Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey have been brilliant this season but the same cannot be said about the quality on the bench. Perhaps this is why the signing of Youri Tielemans should be prioritized in the final days of this transfer window.
