Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has admitted that the club will back manager Mikel Arteta in the January transfer market.

THE LOWDOWN: TRANSFER BUSINESS

Following an excellent start to the campaign, Arteta is hoping to add some reinforcements to his squad ahead of the Gunners’ final push for Premier League triumph.

The Spaniard is fully aware of the threat second-placed Manchester City poses, having worked as Pep Guardiola’s assistant with January reinforcements seen as a must to help wade off.

The North London side are currently top of the log with 44 points from 17 games and are currently five points clear of Manchester City.

THE LATEST: CEO’S PROMISE

“We’ve got a very clear plan, headed up by [technical director] Edu, in terms of what we want to do to strengthen the squad,” Venkatesham told Sky Sports.

“Every transfer window of course, we’re going to look to see what opportunities are out there.

“If something makes sense from a technical perspective and a financial perspective, of course we’ll look at it but we’re happy with the squad that we’ve got.

“We’ll have a look around like we do in every transfer window but we’ve got a long-term plan.”

Arsenal have continued to track Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mudryk and have reportedly tabled a third bid for the Ukrainian.

When quizzed on a potential deal for the 22-year-old Venkatesham said: “You know the answer I’m going to give you, we’re not going to talk about specific players.”

THE LOWDOWN: SHOW ACTION

Arteta had already identified Mudryk as a player he wants to bring in this month, so the CEO and the rest of the board should make it happen in no time.

Arsenal can not afford to dillydally on transfers like this, as there is literally no time on their side as we are almost halfway into the window already.
