Mikel Arteta has been praised by midfielder Granit Xhaka after Arsenal secured an important victory over Manchester United on Sunday evening.

THE LOWDOWN: BIG CHARACTER

Arsenal showed immense character and mentality to claim another massive win in their pursuit of the Premier League title this season.

Generally, it has been a groundbreaking season for Mikel Arteta and his men with the Gunners leading the rest of the league by five points.

It was Manchester United who came visiting at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and the league leaders fought hard from a goal down to secure a statement win.

THE LATEST: TRUSTING THE PROCESS

Granit Xhaka, who has played a key role in Arsenal’s stunning form this season, has credited a good part of the club’s new-found form to Mikel Arteta.

“Last season, we lost the first three games of the season,” he told 20 Min.

“Some people were already at the end of their patience. But now you see what can happen when you give a coach time. After all, this is his first-ever stint as head coach. He is something very special.

“I’ve had many coaches in my career, but never one like Arteta. He seems like he is focused only on football 24 hours a day. He always has a plan A, B – and maybe even a plan Z. But he’s not only top tactically, but he’s also top as a person.”

THE VERDICT: WELL DESERVED

Arteta has been receiving due plaudits for a job well done. This is his biggest season in charge so far despite claiming two trophies in this first one year in charge.

Whatever happens at the end of this season could decide the club’s future in the next few seasons to come.

One thing is clear though, the Gunners will return to the Champions League this season for the first time in nearly six years.
